Baku Azerbaijan

Baku is the capital and largest city of Azerbaijan, and the largest city on both the Caspian Sea and in the Caucasus region. It lies on the southern shore of the Absheron Peninsula, which projects into the Caspian Sea. The city’s main tourist area is the Old Town, known as Icheri Sheher, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with landmarks dating back to medieval times. Within Baku’s walled fortress there are numerous historic sites, including the medieval Palace of the Shirvanshahs, the highlight of the Old City and a must-see for any visitor. In sharp contrast to the Old Town, downtown Baku features ultra‑modern architecture such as the Heydar Aliyev Center, the Flame Towers, and the Crystal Hall. The city center is filled with elegant buildings, and there is a vast promenade along the seafront. Visitors will find plenty of shopping opportunities and excellent local cuisine in Azerbaijani restaurants.
