Located 27 kilometers southeast of the capital, in the area that links the so‑called Alcarria of Madrid with the Jarama River, lies Arganda del Rey. History, tradition, nature, and modernity come together in today’s Arganda. The origin of its name is unknown, although it may derive from its Arab past, while its official surname was added in the second half of the 16th century, when King Philip II granted it the title of Royal Villa (Villa de Realengo).
